According to the International Diabetes Foundation, diabetes currently affects more than 7.2 crore Indians. Recent studies have found that the rate of prevalence of diabetic retinopathy is around 20%. Diabetic retinopathy presents without any symptoms at its earliest stages. If left untreated, it progresses to serious vision loss. When detected early, proper medical treatment can prevent blindness.
Sharnam Eye Centre & Laser Services was started 25 years ago as a specialised centre for the treatment of retinal diseases in Ghaziabad. Our new venture– ‘Sharnam Mobile Retina Eye Clinic’ is a novel concept which will provide diagnostic facilities for the detection of diabetic retinopathy at the doorsteps of diabetic patients.
Our mobile van is equipped with a digital retinal camera which is capable of capturing retinal pictures without dilatation. Retinal images are seen, evaluated, and reported simultaneously via an internet cloud system at our base centre by the retina specialist. The patient will receive the report on hand at the mobile clinic and be advised by the retina specialist at Sharnam Eye Centre & Laser Services. This van is also equipped with a digital vision chart and a glucometer for instant blood glucose testing.
This mobile clinic can be parked at other clinics, medical establishments, and residential societies to provide services at people’s doorsteps for their convenience. We hope this endeavor will help catch diabetic retinopathy before it progresses and prevent blindness in our community.
