Pneumoretinopexy

PNEUMORETINOPEXY is a less invasive advance treatment of certain types of Retinal Detachments.

A special GAS (SF6 or C3F8) which has a property of expanding inside the eye is injected in the eye at certain point.This expanding bubble of gas pushes the retina back towards its normal position. Laser or cryotherapy is performed to seal the tear in retina.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia on OPD basis, some times out station patients may require admission.
Patient has to maintain a certain position to keep the buble at required place for about three days.
Once the Retinal detachment has occurred the treatment is surgery.Scleral Buckling or Vitreous Surgery may be required as per the need.
We have been doing this procedure at Sharnam eye centre & laser services in selected cases of Retinal detachment for last 20 years.
